Favorite Players: Dave Dravecky

Dave Dravecky was a decent pitcher, getting elected to the 1983 All-Star team, and pitching in the 1984 World Series. He gained notoriety in 1988 and 1989 when he was diagnosed with cancer in his pitching arm, had surgery to remove it, and came back to pitch in the Majors. Dravecky's career was over after the '89 season when his arm showed another tumor, and eventually he had to have it amputated, but his Christian faith got him through it, and now he is a motivational speaker and author.

I met Dave in 2005 when he spoke at a church near me, and he was nice enough to sign some cards for me after he spoke. I had purchased a 1983 Fleer rookie, and he signed it and didn't say anything about it, but when he signed another person's '83 Topps, he commented that they had his rookie card. It just goes to show that even players consider Topps to be the main brand when it comes to cards.

Here is Dave's website if you want to take a look. He is a generous signer through the mail if you would like to try to get his autograph. His address to send to is on his FAQ page.
