World Series Winners Part 5: 1996 Topps #510 Dwight Smith

Dwight Smith played in the Majors from 1989-1996. He came up in 1989 with the Chicago Cubs, and finished 2nd in the '89 NL Rookie of the Year award voting. He stayed with the Cubs through 1993, and in 1994 played with the California Angels and Baltimore Orioles. He played with the Atlanta Braves in 1995 and 1996, and won a World Championship with them in 1995.  He has a son, Dwight Jr., who is in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. I actually saw Dwight Jr. play on TV today, and the announcers had good things to say about him, so hopefully he will get called up to the Bigs in '17.

Dwight Smith (Sr.) got his first Topps card in the 1989 Traded set. and appeared in every Topps set from 1990-1995. He also got a card in the 1994 Topps Traded set. Dwight is now just missing a card from the 1997 Topps set to complete his career Topps run.

I've been trying to add Draft Picks, team photos, and stadium cards to each checklist, and have finally added the last cards to the 1989-1993 Topps sets. It has been a pain in the butt to search for team photos, but I'm gonna keep pressing on and try to find them for the 1994-2000 sets, and add the Draft Pick and stadium cards to the 1994-2001 sets. Maybe in a year or so every set will be done and I can just keep crossing cards off of the checklists. The 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000 sets are the only ones that need most of the players added to them, and once I get the DP/team photo/stadium project done, I'll probably work on the 1999, 1998, 1997, and 2000 Topps checklists in that order. I'll try to keep making customs too. Thanks for checking out my latest card.
