1995 Topps #583 Skeeter Barnes

I don't know how I missed it, but I skipped right over Skeeter Barnes and posted Buddy Bell's card a few posts ago. Now to fix the problem, here is Skeeter's 1995 Topps custom.

Skeeter came up to the Majors in 1983 with the Reds. He played with them in 1984 and the Expos in 1985. After spending 1986 in the minors, he got into 4 games with the Cardinals in 1987. He spent 1988 in the minors, and was back with the Reds in 1989. He spent 1990 in the minors, but in 1991, he was finally given a chance with the Detroit Tigers, and did well as a utility player. He played with them through 1994, and then retired. After his playing career, he spent many years as a coach and manager. I met him in 2003 when he was with the Orlando Rays and he signed a few cards for me.

Skeeter didn't get his first Topps card until 1991 when he appeared in the Traded set. He got into the 1992-1994 regular sets, and that was it. He only recieved 1 sunset card, a 1995 Pacific issue. Barnes is missing 1984-1986, 1988, and 1990 Topps cards to complete his career Topps run.

I'm hoping to get a chance to work on some checklists and templates when I get home from work tonight. The 1998 set is almost done, 8 more teams to go. 1994 has about 12 left, and then I just have the 1995 set left and a few touch ups on the 1997 set, and the templates for the '89-'01 sets will be finished. The checklists for the 1989-1991, as well as the 2001 sets are finalized and I will probably work on the checklist cards for the 1991 and 2001 sets too.
Thanks for checking out my latest post.
